One of the most anticipated games of the AFC Championship happens this weekend when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New England Patriots. Fans and players will be in for more than a great game.
An arctic blast could make the game the coldest game in Arrowhead Stadium history. On top of the frigid temperatures, Sunday night is also when we’ll have the last total lunar eclipse of the decade.
The National Weather Service is predicting an arctic blast dropping temperatures to Arrowhead Stadium anywhere from 10 degrees to well below zero. Not only is it expected to the coldest game ever played at Arrowhead Stadium, but also one of the coldest games in NFL history. With a little luck and a few days time, we are hoping to see changes in the weather patterns – anything can happen!
Ryan Maue of WeatherModels.com shows the arctic blast “center-right over Arrowhead Stadium” based on the current weather model. He also predicts that temperatures will be “brutally” cold ranging between -5 degrees and 10 degrees.
Although a lot can change in a few days with a winter storm of this magnitude, it’s currently on target to hit the midwest. You may be happy to be watching this game from home with the frigid temperatures. We don’t anticipate the temperatures to keep fans from filling Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs fans are known for their loyalty, and Patriot fans don’t want to miss an opportunity to see this match-up.
The arctic blast isn’t the only thing that’s going to happen on Sunday for the AFC Championship Game. We will also get to experience the last lunar eclipse of the decade. The eclipse has been nicknamed the “super blood wolf moon”. It may not be visible to fans at Arrowhead Stadium with the cloud cover that will come along with the arctic blast.
