Wintry Weather Expected for the Midwest, West and Northeast

The storm that is currently bringing heavy snow to the southern Rockies, Colorado and New Mexico will spread into other areas within the next few days. This includes the Midwest, West, and Northeast. The storm is expected to bring heavy snow and ice to multiple areas through Thursday.

The same system dumped at least 14 inches of snow to Flagstaff, Arizona by Monday morning.

Tuesday Through Tuesday Evening

New Mexico and Colorado into the Texas Panhandle, parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri, and Iowa will get snow during the day on Tuesday. Freezing rain and sleet are also possible from west-central Texas into central Oklahoma and parts of Missouri and Arkansas.

Tuesday evening, the snow will move north and east into the upper Midwest and Great Lakes. The wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain could expand from central Missouri into the Ohio Valley. Overnight, snow and ice could develop from the mid-Atlantic and southern Appalachians.

Wednesday Through Wednesday Evening

The storm system will make a turn across the upper Midwest and parts of the Great Lakes into Des Moines, Minneapolis, St.Paul and Milwaukee. This will likely affect travel in the mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast. For Washington D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia, accumulating snow will turn into sleet and freezing rain. Once the wintry mix passes, rain will continue for these areas.

New York City is expected to see at least a few inches of snow, changing over to rain on Wednesday evening. The wintry mix will then spread across New England continuing into Thursday. This will include Boston and surrounding areas which will also change over to rain once the snow and ice have stopped.
