Six Fun Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Each year on April 22, Earth Day is celebrated worldwide. Earth Day was founded in 1970 by John McConnell to honor the Earth and promote environmental protection. Here are six fun ways to celebrate Earth Day today and this week!

Recycle

Take electronics, that pile of plastic grocery bags, or glass bottles to your local recycling center. Often these items can’t be recycled via curbside bins, so today is the perfect time to drop them off at a local center!

Go to a Local Event

Look for your community’s Earth Day or week celebrations. Maybe there’s a park cleanup or a tree planting event you can join. If your community doesn’t have an event, start your own with friends and family.

Plant Some Herbs

With spring in full swing, now is the perfect time to start your herb garden. Add some small pots to your windowsill, or create a small plot in your yard. Basil, mint, cilantro, and rosemary are some excellent options.

Don’t Drive

If you can help it, don’t use your vehicle today. Instead, try alternate modes of transportation to get where you need to go. Walk, bike, or take public transportation in your area.

Go Outside

The Earth is an awe-inspiring, beautiful place! Get outside, go on a walk, hike or bike ride, and enjoy the beauty of nature. Try to leave your phone or music at home so you can fully appreciate your surroundings.

Happy Earth Day!
