4th of July Forecast: Who Could Get Rained Out

Millions of Americans are gearing up to celebrate Independence Day Thursday, prepping fireworks, hot dogs, grills and more. But some Americans may need to watch out for thunderstorms, which are expected to hit a few areas of the country on the holiday.

Which areas will be affected?

Everyone is asking which areas of the country are at most risk for storms. Forecasts show that wide swaths of the country are at risk. The northern tier, the Plains states to the central and southern Appalachians, as well as the mid-Atlantic region are all at risk. The majority of the storms will occur between 3pm and 9pm. Fortunately, most are expected to be short – about an hour. However, some areas may experience longer lasting, severe storms as they move through the U.S.

Residents of the affected regions should be aware that the storms may cause flash flooding and power outages. Caution should be used when visibility is low. High humidity may cause slow smoke dispersal from fireworks.

Have a safe and fantastic holiday!
