Quick blast of snow and wintry mix to affect travel today

A quick blast of snow will affect the Northeast today impacting travel in eastern New York spanning to the western New England areas, into New Hampshire and Maine.

Parts of northern New Hampshire may receive between 6-10 inches of snow.

Today’s winter weather advisories

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for the following locations today: central Nebraska, northern Michigan, northeast Michigan, eastern New York and western New England areas, New Hampshire, northern and southern Maine.

Today’s flood advisories

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood advisories for the following areas today: central Mississippi, central Alabama, and along the Mississippi River in southern Illinois and Indiana, southeastern Missouri and western Kentucky, western Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, and northern Mississippi.

Cold front moving in late week

A cold front will move in later in the week bringing a significant temperature drop around the US spanning from the northern Rockies, to the central US, to the Ohio Valley, to the mid-South, Southeast and Northeast.

However, drier weather is expected, diminishing the possibility of snow in most areas. The strongest possibility of snow exists in the southeast along a storm track that could deliver the necessary moisture.

A low is expected to keep the moisture and rainfall over the southern portions of Alabama, Georgia, the Carolina coasts, and Florida.

6 southeastern states could see snow by week’s end

At least six states in the southeast could experience snow by late Thursday or early Friday.

One of two things will happen, either it will be dry and cold, or snow, as rain is not forecasted.

But if all the ingredients come together, the entirety of North Carolina, as well as most of Virginia, southern West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, eastern Tennessee, and northern South Carolina could see snowfall.
