Severe Weather From Texas to the Virginia’s This Week With High Flood Risk

A band of severe weather that extends from Texas to the Virginia’s will affect the South for the next three days bringing a high risk of flooding across the northern portions of Mississippi and Alabama; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Severe weather in the South will bring a high risk of flooding

At least a dozen states in the South will experience heavy rainfall for the first half of this week with an elevated risk of flooding and thunderstorms that could be severe on Wednesday.

Over the three days, heavy rain is expected for eastern Texas; central and northern Louisiana; southern Arkansas; most of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee; the northern half of Georgia; the western portions of the Carolinas and Virginia; southern and eastern Kentucky; and most of West Virginia.

Flood risk starts today

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch which will remain in effect for the next two days in several Southern states.

The risk of flooding is high beginning today in the central and northern portions of Mississippi and Alabama and will continue through Wednesday.

For the next three days, a moderate flood risk continues as well in the northeast corner of Louisiana; the southeast corner of Arkansas; the northern halves of Mississippi and Alabama; the northern quarter of Georgia; southern middle and eastern Tennessee; and the southwestern edge of North Carolina.

Sub-zero wind chills for upper midwest and Great Lakes this week

The upper midwest and Great Lakes region are experiencing brutal cold this week, which will bring extreme wind chills in the subzero range.

By Thursday at 7:30 AM, the coldest spot will be in Sioux Falls with a wind chill factor of -45 degrees. It will only be one degree warmer in International Falls at -44 degrees.

Other extreme when chills are forecast for the rest of the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region including: Minot -29, Fargo -36, Sioux City -31, Des Moines -24, Rochester -37, Minneapolis -31, Madison -16, Milwaukee -7, Green Bay -16.
