Severe Weather Threats and Winter Storm Watches across the US Today

A cold front moving across the US has sent temperatures plunging by as much as 50 degrees in some areas overnight, and the frigid air meeting the warm air is leading to severe weather in the south and east, while also dumping snow across the nation – here are today’s weather headlines, severe weather threats, watches and warnings, plus today’s forecast.

Today’s weather headlines and warnings:

Alabama: Severe weather risk for most of the state, with a lower risk to the east and northeast; risk includes damaging winds, hail, tornadoes and up to 4 inches of rain.

Texas: A winter storm watch is in effect for northern Texas. Hazardous driving conditions due to winter weather, especially for northern Texas. Prepare for near freezing temperatures for the next 48 hours for the San Antonio area.

Tennessee: Flood concerns: Some parts of eastern Tennessee could receive a month’s worth of rainfall this week.

Colorado: The state is expected to receive 60 continuous hours of snowfall, and already, some areas woke up to over a foot of snow this morning.

Chicago: High waves along Lake Michigan and up to 6 inches of snow this week.

Florida: Severe weather possible Thursday, as a cold front moves in bringing damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and the potential of isolated tornadoes.

New Mexico: Hazardous driving conditions in northeast New Mexico due to winter weather conditions.

Michigan: Another round of snow for Metro Detroit.
