Freezing Rain to Upper Midwest, Severe Weather in Central and Eastern US

Portions of the upper Midwest will see freezing rain today, while the central US and East Coast will experience severe thunderstorms.

Here’s the weather outlook around the US for today and tomorrow.

Upper Midwest to see freezing rain

Some people can predict the weather by their knee arthritis pain. It’s a signal activated by cold weather and the pause button for spring has been pressed for the upper Midwest.

It’s going to feel like a return to winter with low temperatures in the teens, only reaching highs in the 30s and 40s. The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of possible freezing rain over northern and eastern North Dakota, northern Minnesota, and West Central in northern Wisconsin.

A wintry mix for various parts of the country

A wintry mix will extend across northern Illinois, southwestern Michigan, and northern Indiana.

To the east, mixed precipitation is forecast over North Central Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Northwest Massachusetts, and Maine.

To the west, mixed precipitation is forecast over North Central and Central Washington, the Sierra in Northern California, central and northeastern Utah, throughout much of Colorado, and northern New Mexico.

Severe weather in central US and East Coast today

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting an outbreak of severe storms on two fronts today.

In the central US, the NWS is forecasting severe thunderstorms over most of Oklahoma, as well as northern and central Texas.

Thunderstorms are forecast throughout the center of Texas extending northward into Kansas, and westward into Colorado, southern Utah, northern Arizona, southern Nevada and into the southern deserts of California.

In the east, thunderstorms are forecast from the Carolinas to southern Maine. However, the NWS has forecast severe thunderstorms over portions of Maryland, Delaware, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, southeastern New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Wednesday’s Outlook: More freezing rain and severe storms

On Wednesday, freezing rain will continue over the northern tier of the country spanning from the upper Midwest to the East Coast, to include portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania.

A large area of severe weather will affect the Midwest and South on Wednesday and expanding into Thursday. On Wednesday, severe thunderstorms are possible over portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana Mississippi, and Alabama.

In addition, heavy rain and flooding are possible in the aforementioned areas, as well as portions of the Midwest including Kansas and Missouri.
