As we head into the second week of April, winter just isn’t stopping in many parts across the US and the heavy snow is leading to road closures in several areas – here’s where it’s snowing and will be snowing this week.

Where it’s snowing across the US today

There’s abundant snowfall in many places across the west, upper Midwest, and northeast.

California and Nevada

Along the Sierra in California and in Nevada, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued avalanche and winter storm warnings that remain in effect until 11 AM on Monday.

Near whiteout conditions are expected in some areas.

To avoid the need to Go Call Saul or some other spinal cord injury lawyer, authorities have taken precautions to prevent accidents.

Law enforcement has blocked eastbound traffic on I-80 due to dangerous road conditions and about 70 miles west of Reno, California 89 was closed as well.

Snow is expected at 3000 feet along the Sierra/Southern Cascades, where around 6 inches should fall at lower elevations and up to 2 feet of snow is expected in areas above 3000 feet.

Mixed precipitation with the possibility of snowfall is also forecast throughout several areas of northern California, as well as the higher elevations of Southern California.

Nevada

On Monday and Tuesday, a wintry mix is forecast throughout the entirety of the state of Nevada, with snowfall likely in some areas.

The rest of the west

There is potential for snowfall today including southern and eastern Oregon; the eastern edge of Washington; throughout Idaho; the western half of Wyoming; western and southern Montana; western, central and northern Utah; and the northwest tip of Arizona.

On Tuesday, mixed precipitation with the potential for snow is also possible for western and all of northern Utah, central and western Wyoming, central Montana, as well as southern and eastern Idaho.

Northeast

Mixed precipitation with potential for snow is forecast for northern Maine, but this area will expand on Tuesday to include northern New York, and all of Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Upper midwest

Today and on Tuesday, mixed precipitation with the potential for snow is forecast across northern Minnesota and northern Michigan, as well as dipping down into the northern tip of Wisconsin as well.

More snow coming to Michigan this week

There is potential for snow in northern Michigan today, but later in the week, southern areas of the state could also see some of the white stuff.

Storm system bringing a strong cold front will roll across Michigan Wednesday night, which could bring some spurts of snow showers on Thursday and Friday as temperatures are expected to hold in the 30’s. Lake effect snow could also occur.

Cold front will continue to bring snow this week

Another cold front is moving in this week that is going to send temperatures plummeting, particularly for the nation’s midsection over the next 6-10 days.

By mid-week, temperatures will drop as much as 20-30 degrees in just 24 hours, which will bring lows back into the 30s in many areas and could keep the snow falling late into the week.
