The Arctic Circle is in the midst of a very intense heat wave right now. This heat wave has sent temperatures soaring in the typically frigid region.
Now, that warm weather is causing an unprecedented spider baby boom, reports say.
Jan Wesner Childs of Weather wrote earlier this week, “Typically, wolf spiders in colder climates have only one batch of eggs, or a clutch, each year. Scientists at the Zackenberg Research Station in Northeast Greenland have been catching and studying the spiders for almost 20 years. They discovered that, during years with earlier snowmelt, the spiders produced their first clutch earlier and were more likely to have a second clutch.”
This essentially means that residents of the Arctic will likely see more creepy crawlers than they’re used to! If you live in that region, be sure to wear your bug spray – you’re gonna need it!
