An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale shook metro Los Angeles early Thursday morning. There are no immediate reports of damage.

The Los Angeles Times reported the earthquake occurred less than a mile from Los Angeles, four miles from Santa Clarita, and seven miles from Burbank at 4:29 a.m. local time.

The tremor struck at a depth of about 5 miles, the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center tweeted. It is not expected to trigger a tsunami off the California coast.

No damage or injuries were report at the Los Angeles International Airport, operations resumed shortly after the shaking stopped according to The Weather Channel.

In the past 10 days, there has only been one earthquake of a magnitude of 3.0 or greater centered nearby. An average of five earthquakes with magnitudes between 4.0 and 5.0 occur per year in the Los Angeles area, said the L.A. Times.

If you live in an earthquake-prone area, make sure you are prepared at all times, since earthquakes can occur at any time of day and any time of the year.
