The relief the Midwest and Plains are seeing at the moment from the recent heat and humidity are short-lived. A pattern change will create another heat dome this weekend.
A slight dip in the jet stream will keep high temps near or even a few degrees below average for much of the Midwest through midweek.
Later this week however is a different story. Strong high pressure will build northward, which will bring soaring temps and heat index into triple digits in some areas.
The Northern and Central Plains can expect the new round of hot temps by midweek. The heat will then envelope much of the upper Midwest and Great Lakes late week, through the weekend.
When you factor in the building humidity, it will feel even hotter.
The heat index will rise into the upper 90’s and 100’s. The heat index is how hot it really feels when the relative humidity is factored in with the air temperature.
