After a summer that continues to be abnormally hot, the northern half of the nation’s midsection and the Northeast should expect a cold winter with above normal snowfall, according to the forecast by Farmers’ Almanac.
Farmers’ Almanac released its 2020-21 winter forecast this week, calling it the “Winter of the Great Divide.”
The forecast divides the lower 48 states into eight geographic regions and has released its general weather outlook for winter 2020-21 in each region, Penn Live reports. Farmers’ Almanac makes its predictions based on a “carefully-guarded formula” that has been used as a guidepost for 204 years.
According to the Farmers’ Almanac the mid-Atlantic region is going to see a winter that is “seasonably cold, wet and white.” The worst part of the season will come in February via a blizzard that will dump between one and two feet of snow along the eastern seaboard.
In the Northeast, “cold and snowy conditions” are expected throughout the winter. You might want to stock up on the best anti wrinkle cream now to protect your skin from the harsh winter ahead.
On the opposite end of the country, in the West, the Almanac predicts normal temperatures. It will be snowy in some of the inland areas, while wet in the coastal regions. However, a drought is also expected in the West which is bad news for places like California that have seen catastrophic wildfires. A drought could potentially create another devastating wildfire season in 2021.
In the center of the country, the Almanac predicts a cold winter, with normal to below-normal in the Northern Rockies, into the Central Plains, the Midwest and into the Great Lakes.
