Severe Weather and Tornado Watch Over Multiple Southern States

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather watch over at least six southern states and tornado watch over 4 for Wednesday, while winter and flood warnings to the West; plus, more weather news.

Warnings for severe weather and tornadoes in the South

At least eight states in the South are under the threat of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, including Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Multiple rounds of severe storms are expected, AccuWeather reported. The main threats are isolated tornadoes, intense rainfall, hail, and damaging wind gusts of up to 80 mph.

On Friday, another round of severe storms is expected to move over much of the same area.

The first storms are expected to fire off on Wednesday afternoon and portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee, then moving into Alabama, Georgia, and middle and eastern Tennessee during the nighttime hours.

Several states, including Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama, are also under the threat of heavy rain and flash flooding.

The National Weather Service is warning that at least four states – northern Louisiana, southern and eastern Arkansas, central and northern Mississippi, and southwestern Tennessee – are under the threat of tornadoes.

NWS warnings for Wednesday

The National Weather Service issued the following alerts for Wednesday:

Tornado watch: northern Louisiana, southern and eastern Arkansas; central and northern Mississippi; southwestern Tennessee.

Flash flood warning: central Arkansas; north-central Mississippi.

Flood watch: southern California.

Winter storm warning: southeast Washington; northeast Oregon; north-central, southeastern and southern California; southern Nevada; northwestern Arizona; south-central Wyoming.

Winter weather advisory: western Washington; northwestern and southeastern Oregon; southern Iowa; central Montana; western Wyoming; north-central, central, and south-central Utah; northern, central, and southeastern California; northwestern Arizona.

3-day snow and ice forecast

Here is the 3-day forecast for ice and snow from the National Weather Service.

Wednesday: Snow for much of the West on Wednesday, as well as over portions of the central US, including the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. A potential ice storm over parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.

Thursday: Snow continues over much of the West and into portions of North Dakota and Minnesota, as well as Eastern Maine.

Friday: Snow will stretch from the West into the upper Midwest from Oregon to Michigan, as well as over Eastern Maine. An ice storm is forecast to stretch over the south-central US to the upper Midwest to include portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois.
