Expansive stretches of weather threats loom over multiple states for several days over the West, South, central US, upper Midwest, and northern regions, bringing fire weather, severe weather, and freezing rain. The 3-day forecast.

Massive pileup, at least 3 killed

A massive pileup of an estimated 40 to 60 vehicles, including tractor-trailers, occurred on Interstate 81 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, after a snow squall hit the area, killing at least three people injuring over a dozen others, the Fox 29 reported. A massive fire broke out as a result of the pileup.

Winter weather advisory for portions of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Red flag warning for portions of New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The 3-day forecast from the National Weather Service shows multiple days of severe weather, critical fire danger, and freezing rain.

Tuesday: Freezing rain, snow, severe weather, critical fire danger, tornadoes

Central US: A large swath of thunderstorms will blanket the nation’s midsection into the Ohio Valley, bringing potential severe weather stretching over the central US, extending from Texas over Oklahoma and Arkansas, through Kansas and Missouri, into Nebraska and Iowa.

Tornadoes are possible over parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas, with a Level 4 alert issued.

Freezing rain will stretch over the northern tier of the US from Montana and North Dakota, extending into South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Mixed precipitation in the West, with some snow over parts of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.

The threat of critical fire weather is possible over parts of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Kansas.

Wednesday: Snow, freezing rain, severe weather, and flooding

Winter weather will continue over the US, bringing mixed precipitation over half the nation, with snow in the West over Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Minnesota, as well as Maine.

Freezing rain over the northern tier impacts Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

A huge swath of severe weather over the South, mid-South, and a whole while Valley will threaten parts of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana.

Thursday: Snow, freezing rain, severe weather

Thunderstorms over the eastern US will bring potential fronts of severe weather over parts of northern Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and into southern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Freezing rain along the northern tier over portions of Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Heavy snow is possible over parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and northern Michigan.

Snow in the West over parts of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.
