Areas of the Plains will see severe thunderstorms through Wednesday, including threats of damaging winds, hail, tornadoes and flooding rainfall.
Storms are most likely to flare up Monday afternoon and evening. Areas of eastern New Mexico, west Texas, Oklahoma, and southeastern Kansas will be affected. Large hail and extreme wind gusts will be the primary threats from these storms.
The storm threat will shift eastward throughout Tuesday and into the evening, resulting in the highest chance for storms ranging from Dallas, Texas, up through Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and into Illinois. Like Monday, there will be risks of large hail, damaging winds, and even tornadoes. Adding to the threat, there could be multiple rounds of thunderstorms throughout the day and into the overnight hours.
Wednesday’s storm threats are less certain, but the risk remains for scattered thunderstorms from Texas and up through the central Plains states to Ohio. Large hail and damaging winds will continue to be a possibility, in addition to the threat of flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued flood watches for parts of the Plains.
