Memorial Day plans often involve outdoor barbecues and pool parties. But what if your part of the country is expected to get rain, sleet, storms, or other inclement weather?
Read on to learn if your region is predicted to experience stormy weather on Memorial Day 2019–and if you might need to make alternative plans for your family cookout.
Although most of the American South can expect sunny, dry weather for Memorial Day weekend without any storms or rain, there are some concerns about heat. These temperatures will be especially high in Florida and the rest of the Southeast.
With temperatures expected to rise between the 90s and even 100s Fahrenheit, excessive heat might be an issue for outdoor events, especially if older family members and children are involved. Make sure to hydrate, use sunscreen, and when in doubt, head indoors if it gets too hot.
The Central United States is likely to experience stormy weather throughout the weekend before Memorial Day Monday, and into Memorial Day itself. Thunderstorms and heavy rain will hit all parts of the southern and central plains throughout the weekend before the national holiday.
There have been issues in recent months with Midwestern area flooding and extremely heavy precipitation, so there are concerns about problems with flash floods on Memorial Day in the Midwest.
However, most of the rain and storms are expected in the later part of Memorial Day Monday, which means that earlier in the day might be a safe choice for cheerier weather and outdoor events.
Some of the storms hitting the Central Plains will also affect the Northeastern United States and the western area of the Great Lakes region on Memorial Day Weekend. However, the effects of the thunderstorms will probably be less severe in the Northeast.
If you’re in this region of the U.S., you should keep an eye on your local weather, as you might experience intermittent rain and thunderstorms. However, major flooding is not expected in this region.
