Severe Weather and Soaking Rain to Start Week and More Weather News

A pattern of wet weather and severe thunderstorms begins today and will continue throughout the week for the south and southeast, while a cold front will dump snow and mixed precipitation over a large swath of the country’s midsection, Ohio Valley, and northeast beginning on Tuesday; plus more weather news and your forecast.

Severe, wet weather starts in the South moves to East through the week

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will move across the South, heading east and northeast through the week. A cold front will also move into southern states beginning on Tuesday.

Today, thunderstorms will occur across a large swath of the south starting from Texas, eastward to include Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

Wet weather is on tap for the Ohio Valley, as well as all of Tennessee, central and northern Alabama, and northern Georgia.

Severe Thunderstorm Risk Tuesday and Wednesday

The most severe thunderstorms will occur on Tuesday over eastern Texas, northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and along the Arkansas-Mississippi border.

On Wednesday, the most severe thunderstorms will be along the gulf affecting the southern portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle.

Thunderstorms will occur from Texas east to the Carolinas, and north to southern Kentucky and southern Virginia.

Snow for Northwest, northern Rockies and large midsection of US

A large section of the country’s midsection, including portions of the northwest and the northern Rockies will see snowfall today, with heavy snow forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) over all of Wyoming, most of Utah, and north-central Colorado, including Denver.

Today, snowfall will occur in the western areas of Washington and Oregon, most of Idaho, southern and western Montana, southwest South Dakota, most of Nebraska and Colorado, northern and western Kansas, northeastern and eastern Nevada, northern Arizona, and southern Iowa.

A wintry mix is forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) for northern and eastern Arizona, most of New Mexico, southern Colorado, southwestern Kansas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, southern and southeastern Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Michigan.

Wet weather for Ohio Valley

Rainfall will occur over the Ohio Valley and surrounding areas today including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, the western edge of New York, western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, the western edges of Virginia and North Carolina, Tennessee, central and northern Alabama, and northern Georgia.
