Severe Weather Slams South, Winter Weather Warnings in North and East

Warnings for strong weather conditions abound across the US today, with severe weather slamming the South prompting flood warnings, while winter weather warnings have been issued in the North and East; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.

Severe weather across the South: Tornado and flood risk

Thunderstorms will span across the southern US today from Louisiana east of Florida and North to Delaware.

However, the strongest and most severe storms are forecast to affect most of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, eastern Tennessee, and the Virginias, with heavy rain and flood warnings also in effect for these states.

Tornado warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in many areas, and one potential tornado may have already struck in Alabama.

Winter weather warnings and advisories

The National Weather Service has issued the following winter-related warnings and advisories for today:

Winter storm warnings: Western and central Montana; central Idaho; western, northeast and southeast Wyoming; western Nebraska; northeast and western Colorado; eastern Utah; northern New York; northern Vermont; northern New Hampshire; northern and southern Maine.

Winter weather advisories: Southwestern Missouri; central and east Illinois; northern Indiana; southern Michigan; northern Ohio; northern, northeastern and central Pennsylvania; Boston and surrounding areas; all of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
