You’ve probably heard about the new infestation of Murder Hornets, or Vespa Mandarinia. These hornets grow up to 2 inches in length and have strong stingers that can pierce heavy clothing.

Unfortunately, they are most active in the late summer and early fall, when most of us are likely to be wearing very light clothing. If you go hiking, make sure to wear adequate protection from plants and insects. This may include heavy trousers and durable boots.

The hornets sting multiple times, and can swarm. If you are stung, seek help immediately. The toxin is not normally fatal, but it is possible to have a severe allergic reaction, particularly with the amount of toxin they can inject in a short amount of time.

You will know that you have been stung as the pain is excruciating. It has been likened to being pierced by a red-hot nail. The pain itself can be debilitating, so make sure that you can call for help.
