NHC Says System off East Coast More Defined, Will Become Tropical Depression or Storm Soon

A low-pressure system that has meandered its way from Florida to the Atlantic coast this week just might become the next tropical system of 2020.

The system located off the coast of North Carolina is becoming more defined, according to The National Hurricane Center, so it could become Tropical Depression #6. If it spins up with sustained winds of 39 MPH it then becomes Tropical Storm Fay.

Keep in mind that if the system which today is expected to move northeast offshore of North Carolina’s Outer Banks and then Friday along the East Coast, could still be deemed subtropical if the center circulation doesn’t tighten up.

Forecasters have said the environmental conditions are expected to be so conducive for development that either a tropical or subtropical cyclone will very likely form by tonight.

Over the next few days, heavy rainfall and flash flood threats along with gusty winds are expected in portions of North Carolina, New England, and the mid-Atlantic, no matter if the storm becomes named or not.
