Storm chasing can be exciting… from your sofa, as you watch one of the television shows or YouTube videos. You can even subscribe to live storm chasing feeds. Feeling more adventurous? You can book a storm chaser tour vacation.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has turned the storm chasing world upside down. If you are looking forward to your storm chasing tour vacation, you will have to wait until 2021 at the earliest.

If you were a storm chaser as a profession, it’s just not a good year for that line of work. International storm chasers can no longer travel internationally. The location of a storm chaser can change every week, depending on where the next major weather event occurs, their lives are spent on the road, driving for hours and even days to capture the perfect shot.

Some chasers were able to obtain essential worker clearances that allow them to travel across state borders, however, that doesn’t lessen the potential dangers of chasing during the pandemic as they try to social distance but that’s not always an option.

No one quite knows what the future of storm chasing is going to morph into after the pandemic. Perhaps cyber-chasing will be a thing!
