Warming Trend for Much of US, Cool Down and Wintry Weather by Weekend

A warming trend for much of the lower 48 hits a spike on Wednesday, while cool air will move down from the North by Friday, with the return of snowy and icy weather in the West, dropping temperatures over the weekend.

Wednesday: Ice storm across Northwest and central U.S., snow for Northeast

Wintry weather will span the northern tier of the U.S. on Wednesday, bringing mixed precipitation across the Northwest, upper Midwest, Ohio Valley, and the mid-Atlantic. Snow for the Northeast.

An ice storm will stretch from North-central Montana across the Dakotas and into southeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Iowa.

Snow for portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, northern Michigan, most of New York, northern Massachusetts, and the entirety of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

The rest of the lower 48 will be relatively clear with rain for parts of northern California, Oregon, and Washington, as well as southern and southeastern Florida.

Thursday:

Storms move into the West Coast, bringing mixed precipitation over several Western states and thunderstorms over western California, with an ice storm over northern and eastern Montana.

Snow over much of North Dakota and northeastern and central Minnesota. Scattered snow showers over portions of northern Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Rain over parts of West Virginia and Maryland, as well as southeastern Florida.

Friday:

Storms move in over much of the Western and north-central U.S.

Scattered snow showers over portions of Oregon, Western Montana and Wyoming, as well as over North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, northern Michigan and northern Vermont.

A significant ice storm will span over the southern half of Minnesota into northern Iowa, the entirety of Wisconsin, and Eastern Michigan.

Thunderstorms for California along the coast, as well as over the Midwest over portions of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.

Rain for parts of Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, and southern Florida.
